The artist takes inspiration from beach culture and is enlightened by the city as locale for multiple museums, parks, and urban gardens, as well as the diversity of urban dwellers.
She was mentored by the late Ted Jaslow. The mentoring continued for the next thirteen years while she worked as his studio assistant. Throughout her life, Barker has traveled extensively and captured images which she has woven into her art.
